Happiness: It is an Attitude

by Neseret on November 22, 2012

The beauty and the beastAre you happy?

Do you feel like happiness is something that is eluding you? Or Are you one of those people who is waiting to be happy? As in when you get the nice job, or the man/woman of your dreams, when you get more money, or when your health improves…we know this road can be a little like the rabbit hole….

The truth is you can be happy right now.

Right this moment. You have everything you need within you to experience happiness right now. Happiness has a lot to do with your beliefs and attitude than anything else that is happening outside of you and around you. However many people on a subconscious level believe their happiness depends on something outside of them.

Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ~ Viktor E. Frankl ~

“Between 1942 and 1945 Viktor Frankl laboured in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished.” Yet not only did Viktor survive living in concetration camp, but he went on to write brilliant books such as Man’s Search for Meaning and several others that teach people how to cope with suffering as well as find meaning and purpose in it.

I believe ‘choosing one’s attitude’ means choosing the meanings we assign to the events, and circumstances of our life. This in turn determines our level of happiness and contentment.

As human beings we have the ability to choose to be happy.

I’m not saying choosing to be happy is an easy task especially when facing difficult life circumstances, or in the face of other people’s actions that are hurtful or in the  whole process of adjusting to life as a citizen of modern day planet earth. However ultimately things always change and people act hurtfully and life has its’ ups and downs.

How we choose to interpret everything in our world though depends on us. We can choose where we focus our attention and how we perceive what is happening inside of us and in our environment. One of my favorite spiritual teachers are Ester and Jerry Hicks. I want to share with you a beautiful quote that illustrates this point precisely.

“True freedom is found in the absence of resistance.

It is about being able to feel good and to be inside your Vortex regardless of the situations or conditions that surround you. True freedom is the discovery of  maintaining unconditional love – of being able to maintain your ‘in the Vortex’ position regardless of conditions.” ~ Ester & Jerry Hicks ~

How I interpret “resistance” is – complaining, not accepting, griping about things as they are. I interpret “your vortex” as your “happy place” – where you feel content, like all is well with your world. So essentially true freedom is being able to maintain the happiness and joy within you regardless of the conditions and circumstances surrounding you.

Please take time to share your experiences and comments here. I’d love to hear what helps you maintain your peace, joy, and happiness? Take the time to share this on Facebook and Twitter. Thank you friend.

Peace, Love & Gratitude,
