From “Depressed” to “Deep Rest” – Depression as a Call to Spiritual Awakening by Jeff Foster

by Neseret on March 8, 2013

This is by far the most refreshing view of depression I’ve ever come across.

I love Jeff’s understanding and explanation of the “deeper meaning” of depression.

And “How does depression relate to spiritual awakening”?

There are some very interesting perspectives on depression, such as Stanford University research which concluded that “a sample of children with bipolar disorder and children at high risk for the disease score higher on a creativity index than healthy children.” – From post: Does Depression Help Us To Be More Creative?

Hi Doug,

I believe mental illness is one of the most challenging things anyone can experience in life. However, just like any other challenge we face in life there is a gift that comes with it. Creativity maybe one of those gifts.

From working with many individuals that suffer from mental illness I’ve noticed among the gifts of mental illness are open mindedness, non-judgement, compassion, and love.

I’ve struggled with depression that stemmed from childhood trauma for most of my life. I feel in the process of learning to cope, heal, and thrive I’ve become a more compassionate and loving human being.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing.

Peace, Love & Gratitude,
