Being Gentle with Yourself

by Neseret on February 8, 2012

StarThe fact is more often than not it has taken you years to get to where you are now.

Healing takes time. Change takes time. Nothing ever happens overnight.

Of Course it is understandable that you want to get to where you want to be fast! You say, “I want it yesterday.” “I wanted to be there last year.” It makes sense you want everything – all the pain and drama to be behind you so you can move forward.

That said you have to first learn to crawl before you walk and walk before you can run. Life happens one moment at a time. Please be gentle with yourself. Realize that changing many of your ingrained habits will require time and a conscious effort.

In the beginning it will be challenging. You’ll slip and fall.

You’ll catch yourself on automatic pilot and doing things out of pure habit. Logically you know what not to do but you do it anyway.

There is a difference between knowing and actually applying it in to your life. The difference is often deeper understanding and knowing. It is discipline. Nothing will bring that deeper understanding to you on a silver platter.

My nursing colleagues and I often say “There is no insight pill.” It just takes time and experiences to finally “Get it!”

During this process you may sometimes feel frustrated and discouraged. You want so badly to change and move forward.

However remember to give yourself time. Give yourself the credit that you are really trying your very best against strong past conditioning and habit.

You  can change your life. You can heal.

That is not a question. The question is will you accept and love yourself for who you are?

Will you have compassion for who you use to be? Will you have compassion for all that you have gone through? All the pain you suffered needlessly.

I know you’re willing to change and you’re taking steps in the right direction. You’re doing the very best you can each and every day.

We are all doing our very best. If we knew and truly understood any better we would do better.

Let go of the past! Let go of your mistakes! Let go of your need to be “perfect” now.

Give yourself permission to not get it “perfectly” the first time, the second time, or even the seventh time.

Resolve you will give yourself ALL the time you need to master this new habit. You will not give up on this journey of healing! NEVER.

I know you can do it. I believe in you.

I LOVE you!

You have everything you need within you to accomplish all that you desire.

You have everything you need within you to be HAPPY and at PEACE.

Peace, Love & Gratitude,
